The Quants by Scott Patterson is a "fun" read.
Unfortunately, it's still only in hardcover. It definitely gives the nod to Thorpe for starting our recent generation of quants and hedge funds.
There is so much history and inter-relation that I never knew.
If you are looking for hard-core trading specifics, you'll be disappointed. If you want history and good reading about Ken Griffin, Jim Simons, Thorpe, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Nicholas Taleb and others and how they faced our recent financial crisis, it's a blast.
Two of my favorite quotes from the book:
"At Deutsche Bank, risk wasn't f$%*cking managed. Risk was bitch-slapped, risk was tamed and told what to do.", page 144.
"Events that models only predicted would happen once in 10,000 years happened every day for three days.", page 232.
It's a quick read, but mostly historical and anecdotal.
