I think you meant 2015 when they changed from a dollar only peg (announcing the change December 12 2015) to a peg against a basket of currencies. However, it' is STILL in reality pegged to the dollar. "On Tuesday, the People’s Bank of China set the ...

Yes, you are correct, when I saw that they were doing the test I just assumed the Norwegian. However that they're doing this on the baltic is even less of an issue. If anything went wrong taking out their ships there would be like shooting fish in a ...

What good thing was announced? (not disagreeing, just asking)

You gotta love the news. "Just miles from Sweden" also just happens to be "Just miles off the Russian coast." Said the second way this is suddenly not so amazing. The Norwegian Sea is the largest body of international water close to Russia. Are they ...

The real "double bottom" would be ~2,500. And if you think BTCUSD is headed to 38k anytime soon there's a bridge I'd like to sell you cheap.

Market expectations are really for only a quarter basis point increase each year. NOTHING that will get us to 3% by 2022 from where it is now.

I find it funny that just a couple of days ago an ECB minister said that they weren't looking at any interest rate increases until the middle of 2019. (calling a rate increase then "realistic") This sounds like typical central bank, "The econommy is ...

How do stories like this (or the one about the girl selling her virginity) end up on the FF news feed? Unless this guy is going to start live streaming his forex trades or something it doesn't belong here.

Please explain how it is that a contract in a currency that is pegged to the dollar is somehow a challenge to the dollar. You're still trading based on the value of USD (or "petrodollar" as seeking alpha wants to say), not based on the value of the ...

People would assume "money laundering" to mean dollars. You don't say ham and cheese and bread sandwich now do you? But Ham and Cheese Lettuce Wrap ... now that is something said. You don't get upset at sandwich makers for not saying "bread" with ...

Yuan is pegged to the dollar. Denominating a contract in Yuan is essentially denominating it in dollars. You tell me that China is going to allow the Yuan to free float AND THEN this is a news story. Until then this move is symbolic AT BEST.

He was convicted for money laundering. BTC was one of the steps he used to do it (interesting how Monero wasn't talked about). The problem wasn't the exchange, they never said it was. Only that he used cryptos as part of his money laundering scheme.

It wasn't actually a 31 billion fraud. It was 31 billion worth of loans. That was the face value of the paper they sold. Barclays didn't make that much on it ... but I'll bet they made more than 2 billion though. I'd guess somewhere in the 10% of ...

It is a symbolic move at best to get people used to the idea of trading Yuan backed objects. Right now Yuan is pegged to the dollar meaning that for all intents and purposes, trading the yuan is synomous with trading the dollar.

The smart always buy when there's blood in the streets. I bought a bunch at a touch over 3k and exited at 11k in the euphoria filled run up. Now I'm just waiting for a bounce anywhere below about 5k and I'll buy back in again. I highly doubt we'll ...
