taxgeek replied Mar 6, 2007Chaikin recommends using it with a moving average or band system. It's also possible to draw trendlines across the flat parts of the indicator and look for a breakout, but it's best not used as a standalone indicator. That's about the only ways that ...

taxgeek replied Mar 5, 2007Demo trading is useful to learn to operate the platform. It will not show you how well you will do in the real market. I did very well with the demo (500 - 1000 pips/week). Using the same system the real market ate me up. I did about 5 months on ...

taxgeek replied Mar 3, 2007I've traded Forex since May. What I've discovered is that the fewer indicators on the chart, the better I do. I've always used indicators to trade stocks, and they seem to work decently there. They just don't move fast enough for Forex. When you get ...

taxgeek replied Mar 3, 2007I think it's FATL and SATL. The crosses look like good signals, but I suspect you would get whipsawed to death in a flat market just trading those. Trading when the fast line crosses the slow line would be the standard strategy with just the two ...

taxgeek replied Feb 28, 2007Basically it's just trading the cross of the 6 period triangular moving average. Unlike the real Heiken Ashi, I don't think the length of the wicks means anything with this indicator. Try putting a 6 period, .3 T3 on the chart with it . I think ...

taxgeek replied Feb 13, 2007It works in Tlatomi because it's used with the Ergodic CCI cross. By itself, it is very dangerous to trade. I've used it. It gives signals way to early unless you confirm with another indicator. I would suggest sticking with Tlatomi.

taxgeek replied Feb 11, 2007MAs are good trend following tools, but trading MA crosses by other MAs or by price is not by definition trend following. Biggest problem with MAs is not lag, but inappropriate application. As far as I can see there are two legitimate ways to trade ...

taxgeek replied Feb 3, 2007Countertrend trades — Looking for a bounce off a bollinger in the countertrend direction can be a tricky way to trade. I usually use an indicator like Accumulation Distribution or Momentum with a 10,1 bollinger applied to the indicator for an ...

taxgeek replied Feb 1, 2007Can't say I've seen many Bollinger systems here. Looks interesting. I may be able to find something to add to my own three bollinger system (20,2; 10,.8; 10, .1). Thanks for posting it.

taxgeek replied Feb 1, 2007From reading your pdf, it appears that your signal is price crossing the purple line? My understanding of Ichimoku is that trades happen when the turning line crosses the standard line, which appears to be later in some cases than your entry. Maybe ...

taxgeek replied Jan 29, 2007Part of the reason for the lack of response is that it's a moving average crossover system. There are lots of these around, and they all have the same problem. Whipsaw. They work, if the market is trending, and profits can be impressive. If it's ...

taxgeek replied Jan 25, 2007Well having tried a lot of mechanical systems over the years, I can say that none works that well. They generate signals, but only the human brain can interpret the story of the chart. Indicators used in a purely mechanical way cannot do that. My ...

taxgeek replied Jan 15, 2007I've tried them. They are based on averages and therefore are a lot like MAs. That also means they lag somewhat. Mostly I think they get used with Ichimoku. Dan Valcu is the man on these. You might want to check his site. I can't post the link, but ...

taxgeek replied Jan 15, 2007Daily here. The short term charts make me nervous to watch, and I lose money almost every time with them. With the daily I look once per day, put in my trades using stop and limit orders and forget it until the next evening. That way I can't pull ...
