I would just write to IB FX support and get their official stance. I doubt that their LPs are passing along volume data to IB, but it's possible.

Any insight as to whether that was a business decision or a regulatory issue?

That's any given quarter, and the data set isn't static (new accounts are added, old accounts get blown up, etc). Extrapolating a static sample set of FX traders over a longer period of time will show a gradual succumbing to the 90%+ failure rate.

Ok interesting, so it's still a hybrid model of on-the-book liquidity + STP bank streams like everywhere else (sans EBS & Reuters). I was under the impression all of Hotspot's liquidity was directly executable (including bank streams), but I guess ...

But either way, your funds are with a prime. And if you think primes are any more secure than the best retail outfits, talk to the HFs that had their prime accounts locked out in the Lehman failure. fwiw, IB accounts are insured up to $100M.

I was pretty much of this mindsest for a few years, chasing institutional platforms. I tried a few, but ended up going back to the retail ECNs (IB & MBT in my case). Unless you're doing really large volume (>10M a clip), I don't see the benefit.
