Pull up a long time-frame chart and it is really obvious. I think on the weekly chart there is a trend line which says gold must reach 1800 by November or the trend is broken.

They are Euros, so you can exchange them anywhere that takes euros. The face value is not affected by the writing on the Euros. ...although if they have Greek writing on them you might only get half what you would get for Euros with German writing ...

The actual rate for Eur/anything is immaterial, although the lower the better for all the EZ economic regions. The important metric is whether the various governments can wield enough confidence to satisfy their borrowing requirements.

You are correct, but in the meantime the normal accounting process is driving relative values. Edit: I forgot to say, SNB is buying Euros, either directly or indirectly, almost as fast as people are trying to sell them.

EZ has positive trade balance, 5 ~ 6bn. US has negative trade balance, ~ -45bn. That is monthly for each. US survives on TIC capital flows, EZ survives on trade. Which do you think will last longest?
