This is where I have trouble. ATR is double what it was 2 weeks ago on most time frames, but is now falling. Setting a trade profit and loss is more guesswork than usual, muddied by losers, profit takers, ditherers, buyers and sellers.

It depends on how serious you are, but trading a demo account will give an insight into real life trading without costing anything. Be careful though - demo account luck can be misleading.

Generally speaking, the smaller the range the better for a break out trade which uses the range for the R:R. But be aware that sometimes tight ranges are the precursor to news releases...
