Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for everyone's contributions in this thread, the indicators, charts, etc. are all very helpful and accelerate the learning process immensely. I especially like the combination of VSA and MM, combining timeframes ...
Trade Using VSA (Volume Spread Analysis)

Successful traders do this, either consciously or subconsciously, I think. They look to trade a certain way during certain market conditions that they know their system works in, which is similar to how certain indicators work well during specific ...
General Market questions

Those are good questions, but without more knowledge of how you trade, I think you are in the best position to determine what to do-- there is no standard answer. One person may only trade when the direction of the trend on the shorter timeframe (1M ...
how can I read the main trend?
- smittens4212 replied Apr 14, 2009
First of all, I would replace 'main' trend with 'relevant' trend. Obviously as you pointed out, there are different trends occurring on different timeframes, which one of these is most relevant to how you trade? As you trade the M1 chart, depending ...

Yeah, I covered at 1.3213, I'm very interested where price is though. Is the selling running out of steam, will it have been just a small retrace from all the buying earlier?

I got short EURUSD a little late, unfortunately I don't get home from work until after the Asian session begins and I lost the ability to enter trades at work
. Short at 1.3360 on the break, would've liked that 1.3390 level, I took 20 off the ...No Brainer Trades

The 1.3400 level is near a fibo extension, 123.6 level, too.

Did you guys take those EURUSD shorts? It approached with a ton of momentum, typically with such wide spread bars breaking out of narrow ranges, fading can be a dangerous move. If it doesn't reverse now, I'll be looking at 1.3400/50/1.3500, based on ...

1, 5, 15, 30M, and 1H candlesticks are all the same across timezones, markets, etc. so I don't think that is particularly good advice.

It depends on the time frame. An uptrend on the 5m chart is quite different from a downtrend on the daily chart. Higher highs and lower highs = in an uptrend

A 2000 pip spike and I can assure you, hard stop or not, your account will be gone. Thankfully for all intents and purposes these don't happen often enough to worry about.
(can) small accounts make a living ?!

This is patently false. If there is low liquidity, individual traders are able to move the market easier, but it does not necessarily mean that they will. If there is a lot of liquidity you can also still see high volatility from more participants ...

I completely agree, but everything in trading charts is subjective. If it weren't, trading would be much simpler. The point is that if you know what to look for, using various indicators can help one visualise and make sense of what the market is ...
Indicators... The Beautiful Lie
- smittens4212 replied Mar 30, 2009
Ah, I see what you are saying; the broker sees close SL orders, and generates 'fake' volume on their end to trigger those orders even though the market may not have actually traded through those levels. To be completely honest, I don't know if ...

Well, yes, they are subjective, and they are subject to tweaking and backfitting data, but the point Craig and others were making is that if you understand how they work, what they are based on, and are able to use them correctly they can be a great ...
Indicators... The Beautiful Lie
- smittens4212 replied Mar 30, 2009
I was under the impression that it's not that actual SL order that they hunt, so much as it is the obvious prices where SLs are placed, so closing a trade manually at X price is essentially the same as putting a SL there. Either way they moved the ...

Not going to speak for him, but I would assume he means something like if you are expecting the market to trade in a range, stochastic can work well, or if you are expecting a breakout, an indicator like the ADX can be used for confirmation. Of ...

Most people here probably have their own version and trade the 'no brainer' style in their own way. I wouldn't worry about pulling away from it, I would actually encourage you to trade the no brainer principals in a way that you are comfortable ...
