I don't like the stat as it divides everyone into winners and losers, rather than considering how much was won or lost. Quite a few losers will be marginal losers, and most winners probably aren't substancial winners.

For trading, Kelly is more of a guideline than a tool to calculate a precise bet amount. I'm not advocating using Full Kelly, but being properly informed about risk and trade size. Any half-decent trader has a far larger edge than is needed to ...

Look up the Kelly Criterion. Anyone who responds "betting kelly is suicide" is overlooking its usefulness.

Yes, though by itself it doesn't mean much. Percentage risked doesn't mean all that much by itself either, as well all trade different timeframes with various sizes of edge. 2% is a commonly thrown around figure by people who haven't done the ...

I have no idea why you would think I suggested the typical trader could do it. I'm talking about good traders, not the marginal-to-losing majority. RoR is higher, but still quite small. I'm talking relative aggression, not absolute aggression. E.g., ...

I do selectively trade wedges, but a short here is unconvincing and too close to major support for my liking. Others may know better, but I think odds are we rise somewhat more. My opinion doesn't stop me holding onto a portion of my short position ...

What need's working out? Just standard support and resistance. Anyone drawing meaningful S&R should have similar levels. Gator's seem more precise than most, but they're not magical. Gator, surprised you bothered posting one today, those levels are ...

Then they're not good traders. Except that entire world doesn't just trade one pair, and cross pairs are extremely correlated to the majors. Even the majors are heavily correlated. What have you been watching? Over the last 6 months, no pair I watch ...

A lot of traders say this, and some I hold in high regard, but it's not this simple. If we know nothing else about a market than its daily range, the only difference between 100atr and 200atr markets is that we will trade the 200atr with half the ...

It's actually a bull wedge. But that doesn't mean it will start a significant bullish movement, it just means that would usually be the bias. Note that price drifts out of wedges all the time. It did a little last night and people were calling for ...

I realise that, I'm just saying traders will vary in what they need to enter. Having a number of indicators offering confluence obviously works for you. Me, I just trust my subconscious analysis

Again, better for you. You have your methods, others have theirs. I make early entries and don't need indicators to align to spot a good trade.

It hasn't broken upwards, it has just drifted out of the wedge/trendline. We're still below 2330, and it's not upwards until it starts breaking through resistance.

Where did I mention belief? I was talking about level of aggression. And yes, I do think a good trader can make 10,000% in 5 years, while not being overly aggressive. Consistently? That well depend largely on their approach. A position trader is ...

This thread exhibits a good variety of typical human behaviour, and how some minor disagreement can be blown out of proportion.

That's why good traders trade. The problem that arises when people talk of returns is that there is not usually consideration to the level of aggression. We can take two traders who are equally good, have one risk 0.25% per trade, and another ...
