Indicators lag, as they are a function of the price, so naturally your timing is going to lag the price action. You have to use indicators to give information rather than give signals.

Do the indicators trick us into making the wrong decision?

Why don't you use MACD Colour, the fast ema set to 65, the slow ema set to 165 and the signal line set to 1. If you do a search you will find one, Should do what you are after.
