jen101 replied Nov 25, 2016No you don't if you're the buyer. The builder pays VAT on the materials and the contractors used have to charge VAT. If you self build, you pay VAT on the materials too but you can reclaim that.

It's called VAT and it's levied at 20% on most things. House purchase is taxed too. That's called stamp duty. For a second or more properties you pay an extra 3% as from April this year. Thank you, Mr Bean, dickhead incarnate.
