Finally despite stickiness and false movement xau moves like it should! 1265.50 tp 1273.00 sl 1230. Not bad especially after weeks of choppiness.

Don't rely on predictions, however accurate they seem. Trade the news! You could have made a week in 5 minutes.

Exactly! Any analysis on any time frame will show that-its obviously wiser to keep out. Cable, even when stable is still choppier than other pairs. i

True, but cable has always been a particularly jumpy pair. Though I'm mainly gold I'm now officially boycotting it. Just decided to take a small loss on my long and not deal with its continued choppiness.

Cable can be cruel! This is what I wrote on the 21st when I entered- After remaining true to my analysis I hung onto my short and finally,30 mns ago got a modest 40 pips.

Retail sales actual -1.5,predicted -0.9 and the cable spikes! A perfect example of the saying "don't trade cable unless you want to lose your money." I was aiming for 1.66000 but will be happy with a small loss around 1.66400.

I think you misunderstand me. Anyone caught shorting gold now has my full sympathy. Though I'm primarily a news trader the trend was glaringly bullish once we passed 1285-1290. My point was we can learn from each others mistakes.

IMO,it was obvious we'd all be abducted by aliens before any significant downward move but we can all learn from each other in myriad ways.

All gold bears of the last 24 hours, please explain your analysis: I'm extremely interested in your interpretation of bearishness.

The beauty of news trading is that when everything follows the script (ie no market manipulation,as we recently saw) you can gain almost effortlessly! 100 pips in 5 minutes long 1261-1271.

Gold should have seen a major jump! Instead its going sideways. At such times I keep out!

As an almost pure data trader this is when I change my strategy. Yes, I took a quick long that turned out to be against the trend so I reversed it to 1241 from 1245. Will stay out and observe home sales.

Those kinds of dips and spikes keep me out. Especially when the data doesn't support that type of movement,IMO.
- kiarie2009 replied Jan 24, 2014
IMO,its safer to avoid the excessive volatility of press conferences. Wait til afterward when the issues have been resolved and the pair choses a direction.

Like all news traders I enter after the news. That way though you may make less than technical guys and believers in stochastics there is little if any room for misinterpretation or overanalysis because you trade what you see.

And another thing a news trader must always remember-make sure you're logged on when the news comes out! Earlier today I was 5 minutes late for GBP news at 830 GMT. By the time I logged on it had gained over 50 pips. Shit!! The second time that's ...
- kiarie2009 replied Jan 22, 2014
Shit! I just committed the cardinal sin of a a news trader-I was late!! I've missed the spike and only just rode in at 1.6500. Kicks,self-hard!!

An hour ago I decided the momentum wasn't enough to reach 1223 let alone 1220. Shorted 1228.50 punched out at 1226.00. Ohh well, there's always tomorrow
- kiarie2009 replied Jan 9, 2014
Frankly, they're all shitty! I only do dollar pairs with very occasional eur/gbp chf under very specific conditions. I took a small short on xau US unemployment. 1228.50-1226;sigh. Not enough momentum. There's always tomorrow!

Politeness prevented me from commenting but I agree,it was annoying even for noobs! As a strict news trader am hoping the news will give enough momentum either way to break this narrow range.
