To TedK - I have no way of getting ahold of you via PM because I think you left the site ... and I am amazed to realize you were only active here long enough to post to my thread and then depart ... I want to say a huge THANK YOU to you, wherever ...

I had no idea. Thank you!

I don't think that's true. Although, I've felt that way on and off myself since putting myself in the open. But I think most of the people on FF are dedicated to carving out a self sufficient existence outside of the norms--just with very diverse ...

Thing is though, being a permanent resident doesn't switch who you pay your taxes to.

All helpful advice. I was figuring that sexist bit about the Wickedfire site too; it does look like they pay better on average though than Digitalpoint. The 2-30c a word quote I saw was what someone on another forum quoted as his price range for ...

As far as I know, without an employer to sponsor you or the ability to self sponsor (which I think involves being an "expert" in one's field as proven via lots of awards and stuff), you have to invest in a country's economy to aquire citizenship. I ...

I reckon that's how they deal with the health and education over there. I'm pretty certain I want to move to Europe eventually, but have yet to pick out a country.

I think how I'd like taxes to work where possible is to tax things that relate to where those taxes go. Like ... tax gasoline, and send that tax to roadwork. That way the people who use the roads most pay for the roadwork, which benefits them, and ...

Taking taxes as an example ... I have nothing against the idea that I pay taxes into a system that uses those taxes in a way that benefits me--ie. education, healthcare, defense if necessary, roadwork. but ... when you pay taxes and they're given to ...

Thanks for the clarification. I've always been a little hazy on this topic (it tends to be oversimplified wherever I see it explained). But I definitely didn't meant to say "your broker's out to get you"!

There's nothing better than the chance to rethink ground assumptions from the differing experiences of others! This thread pretty much -is- a tangent. I'm not even sure it's in the right forum.

"Unless you can fiscally afford it or are okay with barely having enough to stay alive, you just can't do it." This has been supported by my experience ... and basic thermodynamics I think. Can't get something for nothing. No free rides, etc. (How ...

Possibly not the most helpful response, but I figured out the things I wanted most when I thought I was going to die. Being badly injured and in loads of pain, there came a day I had to ask myself seriously if I really wanted to stick around in this ...

Thanks again both TedK and forextom for the tips; from some cursory research this does look like something I could do, so I'm going to give it a go. (other nice thing about trading some articles for reviews first is that I can get my feet wet with a ...

My roommate taught for a long time and tells me that often the really brilliant ones are bored, and thus become "underachievers." Matches my best friend in highschool - effortless 1600 SAT score, D/F average in her grades.

Hey DKallDAY - I just noticed, we both missed this, but that gal was graduating highschool, not college, when she made that speech. It looks like it took a couple months for her speech to really travel around the internet too. Makes me wonder what ...

I've applied for some pretty crappy jobs actually! 20K from a year waiting tables is impressive. My hat goes off to you, sir. K.

I want to give a huge thank-you to everyone who has taken the time to reply to this thread with your thoughts and ideas. I can see that the people on this site have diverse backgrounds and opinions - but one thing in common (besides a love of ...

Hi there, TedK! I like that you've combined much of the differing advice on this thread. I do have an online shop for my jewelry and do most of my promoting on social networks. You can't actually promote from within Etsy very efffectively unless ...

That speech took some serious courage. Totally cathartic to listen to - This really was me in so many ways. I was intent on graduating as quickly as possible - made it out in three years (my parents -insisted- I go (trade school would've been better ...
