Oil prices rise as API data reportedly show U.S. crude supplies down by more than 7 million barrels

The American Petroleum Institute reported late Tuesday that U.S. crude supplies fell by 7.2 million barrels for the week ended Sept. 6, according to sources. The API data also reportedly showed a stockpile decline of 4.5 million barrels in gasoline, while distillate supplies rose by 618,000 barrels. Inventory data from the Energy Information Administration will be released Wednesday. The EIA data are expected to show crude inventories down by 3.6 million barrels last week, according to a survey of analysts polled by S&P Global Platts.
