US will not ease oil sanctions until Venezuela conducts fair elections

The US Government will not renew a temporary licence for Venezuela’s oil and gas sector unless the country’s President Nicolas Maduro commits to free and fair elections this year, a US State Department spokesperson said on Monday. The spokesperson said: “Absent progress by Maduro and his representatives in terms of implementing the road map’s provisions, the United States will not renew the licence when it expires on 18 April 2024,” as reported by Reuters.
