Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the defunct crypto exchange FTX who was convicted on fraud and conspiracy charges last year, was sentenced to 25 years in prison Thursday in New York court. His sentence is well below the maximum statutory sentence of 115 years and the 40- to 50-year sentence prosecutors had sought, but also significantly above the six-and-a-half-year sentence his attorneys wanted.
