US: Inflation gauge says consumer prices rose slightly in April while energy prices declined

A key inflation gauge on Wednesday showed that prices in the United States rose in April slightly more than most analysts on Wall Street expected -- but reflected some measure of economic health after the last report a month ago showed a major surge. The Labor Department said its Consumer Price Index -- which shows the average change in prices for goods and services -- increased by 0.3% last month. The increase over the past 12 months was 8.3%.
