The European Union (EU) expanded its 2030 climate goal this summer, aiming to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by the end of the decade compared to 1990 levels. The previous target was set at 40%. This so-called “Fit for 55” package spans a broad range of sectors and areas, but most new policies and policy proposals are expected to impact the power sector directly or indirectly. Therefore, the power sector is key for the EU to meet its ambitious goal.
