Consumer Price Index, August 2020

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 0.1% on a year-over-year basis in August, matching the 0.1% increase in July. Excluding gasoline, the CPI rose 0.6% in August, following a 0.7% increase in July. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.1% in August. Prices rose in five of the eight major components on a year-over-year basis in August. Gas prices were down 11.1% in August on a year-over-year basis, following a 14.9% decrease in July.
