I can't say nutrition is a big factor... I eat healthy now, bu I've gone though periods of eating very unhealthy and I've honestly never noticed much difference in performance. The one thing that does help is coffee.

{quote} What does your regular breakfast consist of?
Ignored
i usually eat 3-4 hours after waking up, and don't eat anything before that. The meal is a "big meal", very fat, with lots of cheeses, organ meats, etc. (when i say big meal and i watch vegans "what i eat in a day" videos, i might change my term, let's say that's it's a full plate, maybe 2 steacks, some melted cheese, etc) but not very heavy)

then 4 hours before bed i eat a little bit, some eggs and some cheese maybe some fat cream. And i'm good to go

so it's almost OMAD (one meal a day) but i need to lose weight for now, and i've lost 16 pounds in 4 months, and i don't calory restrict at all and never really hungry. When you eat nourishing foods, you're not hungry because your body has all it needs. Before i was eating plants and i was famished 2 hours after eating, then i felt sleepy, sometimes falling asleep. now i'm 100% awake all day and i sleep less. i still drink coffee though, which is not good because of oxalates but i love it so much... i KNOW i'll have to cut it one day, but..

Very interesting! I think breakfast would be the hardest thing for me to manage if I were to ever try a diet like that. Going without carbs in the morning seems to never work out well for me in terms of energy throughout the day

you need to replace sugar with fats, then you run in ketosis and you're fine

A quick question: Is what you eat part of your trading plan? This post has an interesting take on it. What do you think? Do you consider what you eat day-to-day? Do you think it's important to your mental clarity and therefore trading success? Do you think it's nonsense and there are more important things to worry about? I'm interested in hearing your thoughts... :-)

Brain food is very important for any type of activity including trading it requires discipline which I incorporate into my trading. And in addition to my clean eating habits I also exercise so I think your lifestyle will have a-lot to do with your success as a trader having a clear mind and plenty of energy will keep you from burn out.

Well new year, new start and all that...

I have been thinking of having a bit of a reset with my diet and really interested to read some of the examples in this thread!

Maybe cut out alcohol for January and see if there is any difference to my trading...

I believe that healthy living is an essential ingredient to success in anything. The blog makes some great points. I know there's no concrete science behind it, but I am a strong believer in that eating healthy and being physically active have a direct impact on your trading performance. I've seen it in myself and other traders over the past twenty years. In fact, I've seen traders which decades of experience living a poor lifestyle fail time and time again. I've witnessed rookie traders have surprising success. I can't say the the failures are always a result of poor diets, but the surprise traders seem to have a healthy lifestyle all in common.

Absolutely. Staying hydrated is an important factor as well. Caffeine is my exception. Alcohol is the dream-killer and I keep it to special occasions and social events.

Great topic!
First of all, the human body is totally interconnected.
When you switch from eating unhealthy to healthy, some of the benefits you’ll likely experience include:

  1. Alertness
  2. Clear thinking
  3. Lack of fatigue
  4. Stronger mental focus
  5. Better memory
  6. Creativity
  7. Less stress
  8. Better sleep

And that's perfect for traders!

If there is one thing I can't give up, it's coffee. And I don't even intend to. Sorry not sorry

It is important how you "process" the foods as well... So the whole feeding process, not just "what" you eat but also how do you process it...

Or in other words...

Walter Abrams : [while having dinner at Walter and Toni's home] I'm thinking putting "John Anthony" on TV this week if you do this, from here on out you're going to have to eat, sleep, breath, talk, walk and fart "John Anthony" that's the way it is there's no holding back you've got to be it or it doesn't work
Toni Morrow : That's right just think it over and don't decide now
Brandon Lang : If it's the only move, it means I've got to do a little acting I'm cool with that
Walter Abrams : No, no acting this is living you didn't hear me from here on out Brandon Lang and his fettuccine knee and self fucking pity is as flat dead as Donald trump's hair and John "I can walk on fucking water "Anthony has taken his place. I'm going to build an empire around you its going to cost me, do you understand what I'm saying?

Which would deduct that that you could expand the topic to "Is what/how you **insert here** part of your trading plan?" And the (universal) answer would be YES...
You have to EAT and S... as a DOER, PROFITABLE TRADER, PLAYER... or it doesn't work.. some say
Can you afford to take that chance?

I try not to distract from trading on anything, because this case requires maximum concentration. And I don't think eating at this time is the best solution. But drinks are the most important thing to do without alcohol. I always have a glass of water on my desk, it's a great assistant plus it's very healthy. If I sell all day or early in the morning, of course, I can't do without a cup of coffee. But when I first started trading, I used to drink energy drinks all the time. I really liked it, but as time went by I noticed that they made me very nervous and excited, and it's hard to sleep after them, and you don't feel very good the next morning. So I gave it up.

I'm 100% convinced that healthy food can make a difference. If you are coding algos than for sure you may have more time to break the food rules than manual traders

You are what you eat. I stick to foods with a mom and pops, kind of like how I was born. Anything heavily processed, in plastic, or with an expiration that is utterly ridiculous, I don't even touch or even look at. Imagine foods(i.e. Oreo cookies) where mold, or any other of the bacteria doesn't want to grow! That's the definition of lifeless. Selfish food is all of a sudden going to reap the benefits of your bodies tools? I think not. I look at an orange and I see a perfect system, a biological monument that has been through harsh and...

It's not something I have really considered to be honest. I try and moderate and track what I eat anyway for other health issues but maybe it's worth seeing if there is firstly correlation and then causation in what I eat vs trading results. Hard one to control though.
