{quote} Strange. I'm using TradeStation and looking at the CME's (Henry Hub) continous contract. Which to you use? Here's my daily chart: {image}

I've said it before on these and other pages - know *exactly* what you are looking at. Otherwise it is not only extremely misleading, but borders on useless except to the casual observer like people who make serious comment on media. I checked the link, and can find nothing said about continuous. Maybe its the Covid.

Continuous - can mean a number of things. Spot month, probably, although this isn't universal - some use second month out.

This in itself makes no sense with "soft" commodities such as NG, which, amongst other things, is seasonal. Spot month can behave quite differently than further out months. Compare Oct, Nov and Dec NG contract charts, for example. They may as well be different commodities for anyone actually trading them.

You may find similar in many others which are not strictly financial, but even financials (FX, equities, bonds etc) have either contango or backwardation to deal with.

Then, is it adjusted, or spliced?

I personally never use continuous, and rarely spot month. They are a pox. Too many issues.

I'm always astonished when folk ask questions when their broker rolls their CFD into a new month. Children shouldn't play with matches. End Charting Basics 101 rant.

After gapping up this week, natural gas (CME NG) has looked like an airplane ready to land:

You're right in that there is no industry standard for continuous contracts. However, on TradeStation (my platform) the prices of the continuous and the front month will match. Unless you're using that platform to clear through it's smarter to always use the continuous contract (when available), saving yourself from having to continuously update futures contracts.

Looking at the weekly chart, natural gas (NG CME) looks like it's bottomed and should appreciate through the US winter (so long as it's not unusually warm as has been the case for the past two winters).

Just when I thought natural gas prices have bottomed, they prove me wrong... once again! This is not a good sign heading into December.

Natural gas is trying to make a comeback today but inevitably will finish this week with fresh new lows.

Producers of Gas are going stronger on the short side as price goes down

I wouldn't recommand buying Gas yet unless they cool off their positions

A big decrease forecasted in natural gas storage. It's normal in the winter for a drastic decrease to occur. This year it's happened later than normal. There's a lot of room for a significant deviation from forecasts. I'd expect NatGas to get rocked in 15 minutes.

I expect storage to drop more than expected. It usually happens on the first big draw of the year. We could get a spike here in natural gas shortly.

Here's where we're at. Heavy volume this morning:

Nat gas traders are not liking the storage miss (-152B vs -160B exp). Currently diving.

Now that OPEC+ is playing nice again, it's safe to say crude is stable. Now it's trading above the $50 handle. The higher crude prices go, the more bullish case could be made for Natural Gas. Even though the weather is expected to be warm throughout the US winter (again), there's still a lot of ground to make up from the demand crash and alternative energy prices cratering the price of natural gas.

Even though the US economy is getting back on track, office buildings are still relatively empty and it could be a new normal. Natural gas demand from commercial buildings isn't returns.

I've said this before and ng has proven me wrong, but I think it's hit a bottom and we should be gearing up to hit the $3 handle in the short term, maybe even 3.5. I'm looking at the Henry Hub CME Nat Gas futures:

NatGas still going strong but some heavy selling came into the CME contract today around 2:30pm ET. The theme so far this week is colder temperatures supporting prices.

After last week's sell off in natural gas, it gapped up on the weekly open. With a warmer than expected US winter forecast predicted, there's not much supporting NG prices, outside of higher oil prices. I'm not sure what to expect this week, but it I wouldn't be surprised if we filled the gap.
