A quick question:

Is what you eat part of your trading plan?

This post has an interesting take on it.

What do you think?

Do you consider what you eat day-to-day?
Do you think it's important to your mental clarity and therefore trading success?
Do you think it's nonsense and there are more important things to worry about?

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts... :-)

Generally I try to avoid sugars and coffee or other substances that change the normal state of the brain.

This article talks about the best foods for intraday trading:

You brought very interesting question... It is not just about what we eat.. It is about everything... Everything is (inter)connected... Yeah many can laugh at this but...
Every thought is reflected in trading and markets.. Think about it... It is interconnected... Focusing on eating, dieting... is a result of certain mindset... and the same mindset control trading also, right? Also, love this quote...

“In order to be successful, one must project an image of success at all times.”
American Beauty (1999)...

Walter Abrams : [while having dinner at Walter and Toni's home] I'm thinking putting "John Anthony" on TV this week if you do this, from here on out you're going to have to eat, sleep, breath, talk, walk and fart "John Anthony" that's the way it is there's no holding back you've got to be it or it doesn't work
Two for the Money (2005)

You can not cheat yourself.. specially not the markets...

So, yeah, everything is important... And yes, what we eat is important...

Might be wrong, just saying...
Can you afford to take that chance?

Judging from the high intake of false fuel caffeine this week and the inversely proportional trading results....perhaps this thread makes a good point.

Haha, I must also add that one's will has to be strong AF.. because it is hard to break under EXTREME conditions.. and markets (trading) are EXTREME by definition... Your FULL personality WILL be tested to the limits... So every diet goes DOWN the tube (every) MONDAY MORNING, if one is not determined AF...

I am talking about this... this is specially true when one is trying to make a CHANGE, seems greatest challenges known to man can be expected on the exact FIRST day of the desired NEW era... new diet or whatever...

See this for better illustration.... The guy decided to "quit" or "start" something new.... After many years of trying... the VERY first day.. the biggest issue happened... It reminds me of trading very much... See below

You are what you eat.

I stick to foods with a mom and pops, kind of like how I was born. Anything heavily processed, in plastic, or with an expiration that is utterly ridiculous, I don't even touch or even look at. Imagine foods(i.e. Oreo cookies) where mold, or any other of the bacteria doesn't want to grow! That's the definition of lifeless. Selfish food is all of a sudden going to reap the benefits of your bodies tools? I think not. I look at an orange and I see a perfect system, a biological monument that has been through harsh and unimaginable conditions beyond me, and was born before me. Now that's real food. If you want to be adequate with a healthy immune system and neurological one, don't eat trash. You'll have better life balance.

I've noticed that caffeine makes me jittery and alcohol makes me lethargic and grumpy.

Neither of these states are conducive to good trading!

Probably a good idea, but I'd like to channel my inner Don Draper and mix work with scotch!

A good state of mind is essential in front of the trading desk, good diet definitely helps, you don't want to run to the toilets during NFP haha

Joke aside,

Yes, I do believe nutrition plays a role in our mental health,
and it's the psychological game we traders need to master.

I believe it to be an individual as well. Some situations you might need energy like caffeine and sugar,
othertimes you might prefer to be relaxed to be able to sit through many hours of screentime in a passive stance.

More seriously, it comes down to your lifestyle in general and how you are as a trader psychologically. I have the tradition to eat KFC every 1st Friday of the month, feeling good and relaxed, that's all it is about.
