CME Trading Challenge - Micro Crude & Treasury Yield Futures

Anyone ever do one of these CME trading challenges? Came across this one starting 9/12 for Micro WTI Crude & Micro 10-Year Yield. All trades done in a virtual account and $2,500 prize for first place.

Looks like they do these a few times a year. We'll see how this one goes but I'm not one to pass up a free competition with paid prizes.
Have to watch some videos and answer some quiz questions as part of the challenge in order to be eligible for the prize money. Some of it is pretty basic but some of it is actually interesting and helpful.
Pretty interesting. Wound up on the crude futures quotes page and there's some serious backwardation going on. The further out you go the lower the price. I would say just enter, short it, and win but the winner will likely be playing the EIA inventory reports. That's where this game will be won or lost.

Yeah it's only a week long competition so I'm not sure how much of an impact backwardation would have. There is a max position size of 10 contracts on the Micro Crude but I don't see anything about the Micro Treasury Yield futures... Maybe that's where the opportunity lies.

I imagine you're not the only one to think of this so the strategy won't outperform enough to win. But maybe I'm giving the competitors too much credit.

It'll depend on the move and if there's follow through. Yesterday, despite the big draw in crude, there wasn't much of a reaction because the OPEC meeting was overshadowing.

Unless there's somebody out there scalping like crazy, then the best chance you have with minimal effort is to straddle the EIA inventory report with two different users. The offer still stands!

Not sure what is going on here... The current leader is only trading EUR & Nikkei futures. Can't find anything in the rules besides "Participants can only hold a maximum of 10 Micro WTI Crude Oil futures and 10 Micro 10yr Yield contracts at any one time." I assume they won't let this guy win but I'm going to shoot them an email to confirm. If we can trade other products this is a whole different ballgame.

If I won I would have updated this sooner to brag!

49th place... I was in 1st place for a decent amount of time but I only placed 2 trades right at the beginning. Unfortunately didn't have enough time to monitor and actively trade during that week. It was fun though and I'm definitely going to join all the future challenges.
