In fact, I have an indicator which can seperate the number of Bid ticks, and the number of Ask ticks in each bar. You might be surprised to see a down bar with a greater number of Ask ticks but happens all the time.

Because you said you trade the Russell 2000 spot, which I assume must be a CFD. The E-Mini Russell 2000 might be a better alternative, as it is traded on an exchange every trade is accounted for so unlikely to get price spikes.
