US natgas prices climb 4% to two-week high on rising LNG flows, cold weather
U.S. natural gas futures climbed about 4% to a two-week high on Thursday on rising flows to liquefied natural gas (LNG) export plants, a drop in daily output and forecasts for cold weather and higher demand over the next two weeks than previously expected. Prices rose despite forecasts for the return of mild weather in late February. Front-month gas futures for March delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose 12.7 cents, or 3.6%, to $3.692 per million British thermal units (mmBtu) at 7:56 a.m. EST (1256 GMT), putting the contract on track for its highest close since January 27.
