EU elections allow workable majority for climate plans
The result of the European Parliament election appears to allow a workable majority for parties that voted through the EU's 2030 climate and energy strategy. Provisional results show the largest group, the centre-right EPP, gained nine seats to 185, strengthening the position of European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen in her bid to be re-elected. The EPP, centre-left and liberal parties could form a majority, with more than 400 of the 720 seats. This is without the Greens, which lost 19 seats to take them down to 52.
