US consumer confidence hits highest level since December 2021
U.S. consumers are more optimistic about the state of the economy than they’ve been in more than two years, according to a survey by The Conference Board released Tuesday. The nonprofit business research group’s consumer confidence index rose for the third straight month in January to 114.8 from 108 in December. “January’s increase in consumer confidence likely reflected slower inflation, anticipation of lower interest rates ahead, and generally favorable employment conditions as companies continue to hoard labor,” said Dana Peterson, chief economist at The Conference Board.
