Is it purely from the fact that the forecast matched the actual so there was no real "positive surprise" ?

Don't try and second guess the market, central banks have their own agenda especially the Swiss National Bank. Just trade what you see. I gave up years ago trying to work out why things move when they do, and at the end of the day does it matter?

But, as a general rule, since the U.S. dollar is on the “other side” of 90% of all currency trades, U.S. economic releases tend to have the most pronounced impact on forex markets. Trading news is harder than it may sound.

I agree with you, understading price movement, in the end, is the most reliable tool above anything.
But still, i m at this point where i d like to understand the fundamentals also, as i think it might offer a broader picture of economy/offer other hints about the future. But seing rate spikes in USA making USD stronger and the opposite effect on CHF makes me wonder if it's worth investing the time in analyzing, understanding and tracking markets changes according to financial news..or just stick to price movement, macd+rsi and sometimes volumes.
