Cheaper by the dozen: fast-tracking renewables
The UK awarded 11 gigawatts (GW) of new renewable energy projects in its latest contract for difference (CfD) round 4 auction. Offshore wind emerged as the biggest winner with around 7 GW of projects securing CfD, supporting the UK government’s commitment to its goal of 50 GW offshore wind installations target by 2030. Onshore wind and solar PV were included in the auction for the first time since 2015. And onshore wind made a comeback with around 1.5 GW of projects awarded, while solar PV secured around 2.2 GW worth of CfD deals.
