  • US Retail Sales slide by 1.9% in December vs. 0.1% expected decline

    From fxstreet.com

US Retail Sales fell by 1.9% MoM in December, according to data published by the US Census Bureau revealed on Friday. That was well below market expectations for a MoM decline of -0.1% and marked a sharp deceleration from November's growth rate of 0.2% (downwardly revised from 0.3%). That meant that the YoY growth rate in retail sales eased to just under 17.0% from 18.24% in November. Core Retail Sales posted an even larger MoM miss on expectations, dropping 2.3% in December versus forecasts for a 0.2% rise, versus November's 0.1% MoM rise (which was revised lower from 0.3%). Raise prices too high and this is what will happen. The solution to high prices are high prices, consumers are not dumb.

US Retail Sales Data Analysis - 17 January 2022

*Analysis*
It bites when prices go up heavily and salaries don't follow suit.
(By: Bandites).

*The Fed must act like raising rates soon to tackle high inflation and keep healthy on US Economy*.

*Indonesia*
Walaupun Data Penjualan Ritel US yang dirilis *SANGAT BURUK*, namun USD tetap Naik/ Menguat/ Bullish yang disebabkan oleh naiknya kemungkinan The Fed/ Bank Sentral akan bertindak lebih agresif mengenaik Suku Bunga tuk menstabilkan dan menyehatkan ekonomi US. Sebab, saat ini dengan inflasi US yang berada di 7%, telah membuat turunnya minat belanja masyarakat US.
Akibatnya, dengan turunnya minat belanja masyarakat US (yang terlihat dari Data Retail Sales), maka akan mengakibatkan pertumbuhan ekonomi US (GDP US) menjadi tidak sehat/ akan menurun.
Oleh sebab itulah, The Fed perlu bertindak menggunakan Tools Ekonomi yang ada tuk menyehatkan ekonomi US.
Tools tersebut yaitu:
(1) Segera... (bersambung liat di IG: @analisatrading.id tuk analisa lengkap dalam bahasa Indonesia).

*Effect*
*USD* going up/ *bullish* althought US Retail Sales & US Import Price Data are VERY BAD.

Forget about interest rates, unless the inflation rate can be normal again ... because it will greatly weigh on the manufacturing industry and economic factors of other economic growth

Consumers are not dumb. Store increased price significantly on everything. There was an office chair I was eyeing for a couple of month. Back in June, it was worth 270$, on December, the price was increase to 450$ with special sales price at 270$. Long story short I didn't buy anything for Xmas this year. Nothing was really on sales and I didn't have the feeling that there were any real deal. I already have all the necessity at home and only bought food.

Desperately, attempting to keep USD low to move OIL up, which is a major parcel for GDP. But is losing gas.
Everything else if falling behind the feet. Let's continue blame China for not delivering.

is this bad news? I thought inflation was bad news. except for the financial industry's absurdly inflated asset values, of course.

someone please explain why did the USD get stronger after the news? I thought it was bad for the currency. Is it because it signals for the Fed maybe getting hawkish sooner than expected?

January's here time for the usual glut of closures that occur this time of year as christmas didn't save them. (likely worse this year) On the plus side we are as far away from that now horribly comercialised festival as it gets so in that respect I'm having a Happy New Year.
(I'm dollar bear atm too.........)
