Russia’s oil export down 17.2% in Jan-April to 71.6 mln tonnes, says report

In April, crude oil exports fell by 16.4% to 18.64 mln tonnes

MOSCOW, May 2. /TASS/. Russia’s crude oil exports decreased by 17.2% in January-April 2021 year-on-year to 71.57 mln tonnes, the Central Dispatching Department of Fuel Energy Complex reported on Sunday.

In April, crude oil exports fell by 16.4% to 18.64 mln tonnes.

Russia participates in the OPEC+ crude production cuts agreement, due to which supplies to other countries are declining as well.

Oil exports to non-CIS countries went down by 20.5% in four months to 66.65 mln tonnes, and by 16.8% in April to 17.3 mln tonnes. Exports of the Russian oil to CIS states doubled in the reporting period to 4.92 mln tonnes, and dropped by 10.4% in April to 1.32 mln tonnes.

Crude oil transit edged up by 2.6% in January-April to 6.1 mln tonnes, and decreased by 8.9% in April to 1.55 mln tonnes.

Oil production

Russia’s oil and gas condensate production decreased by 7.8% in April 2021 year-on-year to 42.8 mln tonnes. Russia is reducing crude production as part of the OPEC+ for stabilization of the market. Meanwhile it was able to boost output by 130,000 barrels per day in February-April.

Russia’s crude production has decreased by 10.1% year-to-date to 167.94 mln tonnes.

According to the data under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Rosneft crude production dropped by 6.6% in April to 15.9 mln tonnes, and by 11.2% year-to-date to 61.6 mln tonnes. Oil output of Lukoil decreased by 10.8% to 6.1 mln tonnes and by 11.8% to 24.1 mln tonnes, respectively, Surgutneftegas - by 15.7% to 4.5 mln tonnes and by 14% to 17.6 mln tonnes, Gazprom Neft - by 14.6% to 4.64 mln tonnes and by 10% to 18.5 mln tonnes.

Tatneft output went up by almost 12% to 2.23 mln tonnes last month, and slipped by 6.3% since the beginning of the year to 8.7 mln tonnes, Novatek production gained 4% to 0.99 mln tonnes and 2.4% to 4 mln tonnes, respectively. Production of oil and condensate by PSA (production sharing agreement) operators fell by 10.1% to 1.13 mln tonnes in April and by 8.4% year-to-date to 4.5 mln tonnes.

Oil refining

Russia’s output of petroleum products increased by 6.5% in April 2021 year-on-year to 23.23 mln tonnes.

Overall, in January-April period primary oil processing dropped by 3.7% to 91.6 mln tonnes in Russia.

Electricity export

Russia’s electricity exports climbed 2.2-fold in January-April 2021 year-on-year to 8.1 bln kW per hour.

Electricity export supplies in April 2021 rose 1.8-fold in annual terms to 1.6 bln kW per hour.

Russia’s year-to-date electricity imports equaled 0.2 bln kW per hour, according to the report.

Coal production 

Russia’s coal production grew by 7.3% in April 2021 year-on-year to 35 mln tonnes, and by 8.5% year-to-date to 143.5 mln tonnes.

Domestic coal supplies rose by 17.5% in the reporting period to 13.3 mln tonnes. Coal exports added 6.9% last month to 17.96 mln tonnes.

Year-to-date deliveries to the domestic market went up by 6.4% to 59.54 mln tonnes, whereas export supplies - by 11.3% to 66.5 mln tonnes.

Production of the largest coal companies in January-April 2021 amounted to: SUEK - 38.2 mln tonnes of coal (up 5%), Kuzbassrazrezugol (part of UMMC) - 11.7 mln tonnes (down 8.2%), SDS-Ugol - 6.5 mln tonnes (up 5.3%), Vostsibugol - 4.35 mln tonnes (down 11.8%), Southern Kuzbass (part of Mechel) - 2.1 mln tonnes (down 42.8%), and Yakutugol (part of Mechel) - 1.47 mln tonnes (down 25%).
